Hello and thanks for visiting. I'm Mike Markowitz and although I've been an astronomy enthusiast for years, I've only started attending stargazing events just 5 years ago. I've been hooked ever since. I currently own three telescopes and love to share the views with others.
At the start of the summer of 2018, I became a member of the Columbus Astronomical Society (CAS), an official volunteer for the Franklin County Metro Park System (where I assist at stargazing programs), and a volunteer down at the John Glenn Astronomy Park in Hocking Hills (which I highly recommend visiting).
It was this year when I also stumbled upon the wonderful world of meteorite collecting and its amazing community of people I live vicariously though - who are the meteorite hunters and dealers of this fantastic hobby (some of whom are very much like the Indiana Jones of meteorites).
Being able to literally hold a "space rock" in your hand and realize that this precious and rare specimen traveled (in all likelihood) from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, entered our atmosphere, and survived the journey to land on Earth is beyond mind-boggling to me.
I put together this site to share many of the meteorites in my rather new collection. I live in central Ohio (home to only 12 known found meteorites) so hunting for meteorites is pretty much out of the question. Connecting with reputable dealers/hunters is key. I will share some information pertaining to people I've found to be extremely trustworthy and highly regarded in the meteorite community.
Enjoy and please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Thanks for visiting Marko Meteorites.
- Mike
